Stages of Decay

Most of my work has a strong narrative element: reflected either in series such as the disintegrating cups; or within a single object that documents its own transformation, through the battered surfaces and the appearance of corrosion or the molten spoon that tells a tale of blistering heat through the trapped bubbles in the body of the clay.

There are always particular ideas I'm playing with. In this body of work, there's a focus on identity and decay - are the cups representing the same cup at different stages of decay? Or are they different cups each time? As we change are we also the same? I am also interested in the problem of communication: the funnel with the molten spoon looks to me like a mouth with a burnt tongue. Some messages it seems never get there. Some things can never be said.
